Shooting for Ebay Power Seller for More Benefits

KHALED TALEB asked:

When selling on eBay, your goal should always be to obtain Powerseller status. The reasons for these are many. By becoming a Powerseller you will distinguish yourself in a very competitive marketplace as being a business that does consistently good sales with a high level of customer service skills. People will trust you more than if you were just someone who opened an eBay auction yesterday.

EBay recognizes its powersellers with a unique icon next to the member’s ID. It looks like this:

It clearly identifies you as someone who has eBay’s stamp of approval by meeting specific criteria that they deem qualifies you as a Powerseller in their marketplace. On top of that recognition, eBay backs its Powersellers with additional benefits that it doesn’t provide to regular members. This can provide more support to your business and help you get deals that aren’t available to the rest of the eBayers.

What You Need To Qualify

:: 98% positive feedback rating

As mentioned earlier, the most important thing to qualify is at least a 98% positive feedback rating. This is why you want to provide the best customer service and be proactive in dealing with problems that arise during the course of your business.

:: Consistent high sales volume

Powersellers tend to sell more and more often than other eBayers. There doesn’t appear to be a set number of sales they have to reach, but eBay does want to see consistent high sales to qualify.

:: Compliance with eBay’s policies

Powersellers are people who comply with the rules and don’t try to game the system. Their record of sales speak for themselves, but they also deliver what they say they will deliver and when they will deliver. They don’t sell items that aren’t allowed or try to bypass rules of conduct in the marketplace.

:: Good financial standing

Powersellers are current on their eBay accounts. They have paid their fees and anything else that they incur in the course of business.

:: Detailed seller rating of 4.5 or higher

This is a new rule going into effect in July, 2008. All Powersellers will have to have at least a score of 4.5 in each of the categories of communication, shipping, shipping time, and handling charges.

It costs nothing to be admitted into the Powerseller program, but you do get exclusive benefits that others don’t receive. They are well worth shooting for.

The Four Keys To Being A “Stealth” Power Seller With EBay Alternatives

Rose Li asked:

Perhaps you’re familiar with the term first coined on eBay: Power Seller.

Or, you might even be a Power Seller on eBay.

What you may not be aware of, though, is the hidden potential in other auction sites, or eBay alternative sites, to be a “stealth” Power Seller.

You won’t have a little icon by your user name on these other sites to tell the world you’re a Power Seller, but that is probably a good thing as Power Sellers seem to be targeted more by scammers than other sellers.

However, if you take advantage of the many benefits for sellers that are available at other alternative auction sites, you might become a “stealth” Power Seller.

Many of the eBay alternative auction sites do not charge listing fees. Some don’t even charge final value fees. So, a lot more of the money from what you sell will end up in your pocket instead of eBay’s.

That would be a refreshing change, wouldn’t it?

Here are a few tips for becoming a Stealth Power Seller on an eBay alternative auction site:

Don’t put all of your eggs into one basket:

There are at least 15-20 viable alternatives to eBay. Since most of those don’t even charge a listing fee, why limit yourself to only marketing your wares at one site? Instead, list with several of them. The more the merrier! It will just be more free exposure for you and your products and an increased chance of selling more items by reaching a broader audience of shoppers.

Stay away from Paypal:

Avoid taking Paypal payments if you can. Since Paypal started its nasty little habit of holding a seller’s payment for an item for 21 days and expecting the seller to go ahead and ship it before getting paid—the more you can collect your payments through other channels besides Paypal, the better off you are. Many of the other sites will allow a seller to accept checks or money orders. No fees on these paper payments means more profits for you!

Cater to the smaller niche markets:

Many buyers who frequented the smaller niche markets on eBay left when the sellers went elsewhere. You need to be where they are if your products fit into one of these niche categories.

By spreading your items around at some of the eBay alternative websites, you can realize a substantial increase in sales and profits!
